Redesigned and art directed luxury lifestyle/political magazine for Washington, D.C. publisher. Created new cover format and updated existing logo; redesigned and organized all inside edit, built full templates, and trained support staff in execution. (2006)
Completely redesigned business and planning magazine suite (6 titles) for leading international travel publisher including repurposing standing edit. Created new cover and logo; redesigned inside edit, templated extensive table and chart styles, forms. (2005)
Reformatted subscriber newsletter for Los Angeles public television station KCET. Created new format, look, and logo. (2004)
Co-developed a fitness/lifestyle magazine aimed at well-educated adults. Led art direction, production and prepress; participated in content development, editing and writing. Developed format, logo, look, direction and workflows. (2003) templates.
Graphic Design and Illustration
Designed and produced retail and informational Websites for several gift industry clients, including a national high-end home furnishings manufacturer; created all design and site architecture and oversaw programming and testing. (2007)

Art Director, The Advocate | 2000-2001
Promoted to lead art direction for an award-winning, national, biweekly newsmagazine with a circulation of 100,000 and read through of 250,000 per issue, with 44 of 88 pages devoted to news edit. Member of the editorial staff, responsible for integrating content with look and feel. Manager of a creative/technical staff of four and an annual budget of up to $225,000. Reported to the Creative Director.
Produced all layout, design and pagination, art directed photo shoots, assigned and edited photography and illustrations in order to present a current and story-relevant look. Hired and collaborated with many image vendors of stock and news photos. Created and produced full-size and spot illustrations, averaging one per issue.
Governed all prepress activities, ensuring the overall quality of the printed magazine. Directed varied tasks, including image research, high-quality image correction, digital imaging and color management.

MAJOR PROJECTS & ACHIEVEMENTS
• Won the Maggie Award for "Best Magazine in Politics and Social Issues" in 2000, awarded in 2001, and for "Best Magazine in Politics and Social Issues" in 1997, awarded in 1998.
Hired and trained staff in digital imaging and color management and mentored all projects.
Created an intranet site to access online vendors that became the resource for all other publications within the company.
Restructured workflow systems that increased productivity and effectiveness to meet deadline-sensitive projects.

Associate Art Director, The Advocate | 1997-2000
Selected by management to exclusively focus on The Advocate. Accomplishment:Designed the news Web site pages, formatted text in HTML, uploaded and debugged the final Web site. Created full-size illustrations. Paginated the magazine. Designed PowerPoint sales presentations.

Associate Art Director for all Department Publications | 1996-1997
Worked on book design in addition to graphic design for three magazines. Accomplishment: Created collateral for book catalogues, marketing materials and the advertising kit.

BOOK SOUP, LOS ANGELES, CA
Associate Marketing Manager | 1990-1996
Created and maintained the visual identity of one of the largest independent bookstores in the western U.S. Designed and produced environmental signage, invitations, event calendars, menus, business forms, and all manner of collateral and promotional items. Reported to the Marketing Manager.
Worked closely with the marketing manager on planning and publicizing book events. Produced lavish holiday and the day-to-day book displays. Purchased, priced and maintained inventory of cards and gifts. Accomplishment: Earned the highest profit margin to date in the store’s history for cards and gifts.

ARNOLD SHAPIRO PRODUCTIONS, LOS ANGELES, CA
Production Coordinator | 1990
Managed and scheduled duties for art direction, design of screens credits, and support for wardrobe, set decoration and design. Created shooting schedules for actors and scenes, negotiated stock footage usage, and worked to come in under budget. Reported to the Associate Producer.
